Hello fellow a2s.in members!
Writhing my first public tutorial for a2s (Next, advenced part's may be found in Angeclub section later)

First some explaining what a dropped domain is:
Domain that has expired and been owned for at least a year.
If the registrant does not renew it, it will go thru a "Drop Cycle"

Is a dropped domain a bad or good sign?
Depends on the domain, some domains may be banned from Google (basically worthless), and some may be with a good PR and Alexa rating.

Why using a dropped domain?
It can be easier just to find a niche domain, but there are a lot more great points.
Like: PR, Alexa, Indexed pages and how old it is, backlinks.
That means it can be easier to rank and index in search engine's.

Is there any research done?
Yes! Like always, even when just buying a "normal" domain, you should research it.

If there are any other questions, feel free to ask!

LETS START!

1) Register on 301 Moved Permanently (http://expireddomains.net)
http://i.gyazo.com/deb674d3085804741d684b0f96c97d88.png
I don't remember if there is a email verification or not, check that :D
2) Navigate to the main member website: Redirecting to http://www.expireddomains.net/login/ (http://member.expireddomains.net/)
and in the menu chose a extension you would like to buy (.com get picked out very fast)
I will take .COM (I show there archives -.-)

3) Now you will see a huge list of domains, but we got to filter it.
Press "Show filter"

4) I will show the filter setup I usually use, and explain why.

Only new last 24 hours: I want only the freshest ones.
No fake PR's: I guess that's just understandable
No unsure PR's: I guess that's just understandable
No PageRank -1: I guess that's just understandable
No numbers: Bad for SEO, looks bad.
No hyphens: Bad for SEO, brings the overall value down if selling.
9 Max lenght: Google does not like long domains, and I think 9 characters is optimal, and pretty easy to remember.
200 Domains per page: Less page switching :D
5) Pick a domain you could be interested, and now let's start researching it, basic level.
I picked "FreePVA"
6) Open 301 Moved Permanently (http://cekpr.com) and input the domain, tick "Show Links Popularity" and then press Enter
7) Analyze.

Google PR: 0, that's very common

For link popularity section:
Google: Sad, no indexed links.
OSE: 5, low, but at least something. (When you do yours, click on the number, we gonna use that page later)
Alexa: 6,721,057, That's pretty good for start, can be boosted easily.
DMOZ: Not indexed, VERY common.
DA: 7/100, that's a pretty low one, I guess I picked the wrong one if I want to rank it easily.
Web history: Does not mean anything actually, you can just see how the websites looked if the domain was used. Great for SEO, if you do this site just for a BL network, try to replicate the old website.

8) Now open the MOZ website that I told you will need.
http://i.gyazo.com/90037f4b754fd42d9415dfe67b2a00ab.png

Here you can see if there are any backlinks and the DA and PA.

You can see, for this domain there is one backlink, but a very old one. That is probably gone by now.

Always checking for backlinks, you should look at them. Make sure they don't look spammy, that's not a good sign if done in big quantities.

END:
I personally would only purchase this domain for it's name, a pretty good one for a PVA niche.
Other then that, I would not purchase it, lacks some stuff I want for easy ranking.

For this part, this will be it. This is just the basic guide lines, there are a lot of websites that can check BL and PR.
Always look out how true the PR is, it can be faked. (You will see that if it's checked with these sites.)

Thanks you for reading!
